What is a credit report dispute?

A credit report dispute occurs when you request Equifax or TransUnion to investigate any information on your credit report that appears inaccurate or incorrect. It’s important to routinely check your credit report for accuracy, including personal details, credit accounts, collections, bankruptcies, and credit inquiries. If you identify any information that appears inaccurate or incomplete, it’s advisable to file a credit dispute.
